One True Media is closing!

Nobody I know ever heard of One True Media, which may be why it’s closing, but the only reason Google gives us is that Disney acquired something called Spotify, which owned One True Media. It seems like the whole world is consolidating.

I feel like I’m losing a friend. After every vacation I’d upload my photos and little videos, add music (they had a long list of music you could use without having to worry about royaties), create captions and text slides, and post the resulting video to You Tube.

I’d put in a link to them before they go away, but when I tried it I got that really scary message with yellow skulls (not really, but it had that effect) warning that it wasn’t a secure site and did I really want to continue?

Luckily, before they brought in the skulls I got a message from them that they were going to close at the end of May, and all our videos would go away. We had till May 15 to post them to YouTube or buy a DVD or download them – I’d posted all but one already, so I managed to edit my last one and post it. Here it is – Terry will recognize herself.

I need another site like that! Or, I guess I could either start taking vacations to ugly places or none at all.

Just wanted to let you know that One True Media is open if you are in the process of downloading videos. I started to download 3 videos about 1 1/2 weeks ago, and they are still downloading. They are such a great company, that they decided to keep that part of the website open.

  2. I’m so sad to find this out today. I was looking at our old family blog with my son this morning and the video I made of his first year using One True Media is gone. I’m wondering if there is way to get in touch with them to get my video. I never got an email saying they were closing. 😦

  3. Dawn Maracle says:

I never got a notification either and lost two videos that were not only of sentimental value to me but took days to create. I am broken hearted over this loss. don’t know how to reach them in order to see if there is any way possible to aquire them,

  4. Michelle says:

I tried getting mine but now they are no longer there??

  5. Christine says:

I’m also interested in getting in touch with them. All my videos are gone:(

  6. Vivian Magbitang says:

I’m in the same boat. Didn’t get any warning. Hope there’s a way to get them:(

  7. chona says:

one true media please come back 😦

  8. Wanda says:

I did not get a notice either and had several heartfelt videos of people I have lost…Now I lost those videos….am heartbroken!

  9. andy says:

so sad why one true media closing
    😥

  10. I also would like to retrieve my videos. If anyone finds out how~please post the answer. Thanks so much !

    • Karen says:

Did you get an email from them telling you they were closing? I never did. I will not believe that Disney doesn’t have the technical savvy to bring videos back to us. Why would they just toss them all in this day and age of computer storage? They never heard of storing them on a cloud when someone went to look for them?? I’m sickened too & have been continually emailing John.Love@disney.com (the founder or OneTrue Media who jumped ship to Disney) & Carrie.Davis@disney.com to get an answer.

      • Jill says:

I just logged in to find the same. I did not receive an email either. The phone number I found was disconnected. I wonder if the Better Business would have it?

      • Dawn Maracle says:

Nope never received a word. Apparently they posted it on the site. Big whoop! I didn’t go there on a regular basis so I just barely missed it.

      • Diann says:

Karen, DId you ever hear back from Love or Davis? So many memories gone for me, also!

      • Terrence says:

I e-mailed Carrie.Davis@disney.com and hopefully I will receive good news about getting my files back.
Thanks for your comment and I will let you know how it turns out!

        Terry

      • Dawn I Maracle says:

Would love to get my precious video back too. 😦

      • Terrence Cook says:

Unfortunately I hit the same brick wall: “postmaster@disney.com via twdc.onmicrosoft.com

        to me

Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:

The email address you entered couldn’t be found. Please check the recipient’s email address and try to resend the message. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk.
If anyone comes up with a way to contact someone who still has access to onetruemedia files please post in updates of this post.
        Thanks,
        Terrence

  11. Vanessa says:

no email here either! I have videos that can never ever be replaced!

  12. Jill says:

I just went to log on to one true media to find they are closed. Does anyone know how to still get in contact with them to purchase a dvd?

  13. LW says:

Man, this sucks. I used OneTrueMedia to do slideshow montages for church and stuff cuz it was so much easier to do. I could load my pics up and OneTrueMedia did over half of the work for me with transitions, ect. Saved me hours and hours of work per montage over the years. Now it looks like I’m gonna need to brush up my skills in my video editor to be able to get the same effect I was able to do in OneTrueMedia with very little work. Sucks that I’m just now hearing about it, but luckily I always downloaded my videos and uploaded to youtube my self. Mostly to get rid of their logo. Kinda kept them back as my little secrete to my wonderful montages. Now I’m actually gonna have to work, HAHA

  14. Cristal says:

Well these thieves were charging me monthly. For 3.99 for 10months. And I never knew that. Now there’s no way to reach thrm and they steal. I hope they did go bankrupt and lose everything . These bunch of thieving jerks.

  15. My son had cancer and I had videos of him..I pray I can get them all back..I never received a notice that they were closing down…..I can’t replace them …my heart is broken…

  16. allen says:

i did not expect one true media is also closed already,,,i learn to create video from one true midea for the first time,,,i’m sad,,

  17. Becky says:

I never received notice they were closing…. I just tried to access my videos and that’s how I found out. IT PISSES me off… I had 4 memorial videos of family members and the one I need the most was of my brother 20 years ago… He was 16 and killed in a car accident. I cannot believe that they only posted that they were “closing” on their website… you had to have our emails from when we registered. I JUST WANT TO KNOW HOW TO GET MY VIDEOS BACK, THEY MEAN THE WORLD TO ME!!!! Some cannot be replaced. I will try to contact John.Love@disney.com (the founder or OneTrue Media who jumped ship to Disney) & Carrie.Davis@disney.com to get an answer… This is just unbelievable… I’m beyond heart broken.

  18. Caboose says:

I also would like to get my videos back. A lot of family memories.

  19. I’m a mom with lung cancer who is desperately trying to get all the videos I made of my children’s childhood. We bought the dvd’s but a psycho pet-sitter stole our wedding album and family dvd’s when we temporarily moved to be closer to the cancer hospital. How could they do this…so heartless. Shame on them all.

  20. Vypress says:

I seriously can not believe this! I lost pics on a computer and felt so much better I had them saved on one true media. I just went back on there to start one for my business and it is gone!
Wow, I had zero notice about this as well! Pics and Video of my kids is gone!! This should not be allowed to happen!

    • bobbie says:

They did email people that it was going to happen, and that they should put their videos on DVDs or YouTube, but I guess they missed you. Sad.

      • Dawn Maracle says:

yea they missed a lot of folks!!! They just didn’t care!!!!! I think we should do a class action against them and the new owners for being so callous

      • Anna says:

I received several emails about it. I had cancelled the subscription until the last month to download all my videos and upload to YouTube. Now, like today for my daughter’s birthday, when people ask me how they can get the program, I have to tell them how easy it was but no longer available. I really miss being able to use this simple to use program. I’ve used others, but not as good as this one. If you have an Ipad, they have plenty to choose from including Imovie.

      • Kelly says:

I never received that email either and just found out today that they closed. I had one video of my fur babies, who have passed on and now I can’t get that video?! This ticks me off!

  21. Pamela says:

I had no idea that One True Media were closing until I recently went on to make a new video and order the ones I already had one. I am just devastated. I really wish notification was sent out to give people a chance to get their videos. Not a weeks notice, actual time. Even if they close down they should be letting people get their videos for a certain length of time. Losing memories you can’t get back is heartbreaking…please give us the chance the get our videos back

  22. Jill says:

Let them charge us to retrieve, but give us the option!!! Somethings can not be replaced.

  23. Alexys says:

I agree, all of my childhood memories are on onetruemedia media, and I would love to buy them instead of have them lost forever. Please let me know if anyone can send me my videos.

    • bobbie says:

As I’ve written here before, I have nothing to do with One True Media. I’ve tried to contact the people mentioned in some of the comments below, who are now at Disney, but to no avail.

  24. Lisa O'Hara says:

I’m sick about this. I never got an email from them stating that they were closing. I want my videos!!!

  25. treelo87 says:

Another person not notified here and I’ve now lost images and memories that I’d uploaded to that site. If anyone manages to get a response or resolution so we can retrieve videos, I’d definitely be interested in how you went about it as I’m desperate to get those videos downloaded.

  26. I got a email from them saying they were closing plus it was right on the site, I used them all the time to create video for funerals and birthdays and weddings and so far I have yet to find another site even close to them…I wish someone would create another site exactly like One true media……

  27. Carey Malott says:

I had a video memorial of my grandma and I had it saved to my Facebook. Somehow it took that copy too!!!! 😦 😦 I’m beyond upset!!! :.(

    • Katie says:

I also made 3 of them for each of my children and i can’t find the site any longer and also noticed they are not under my fb videos and I AM SO PISSED!!!

  28. Angela says:

My daughter’s childhood videos are GONE! I had saved 75 to facebook but those are gone too! I am so upset. I would be willing to pay a fee to get my videos back! Crying. Beyond upset. I had not been on in almost two years because we have been in the process of adopting a 6 and 8 year old and my life has been crazy. Now that things have calmed down and I get on to look at my videos I find that they are GONE! This is unbelievable!

  29. Rachel johnson says:

I had all my kids first year videos through one true media. My 4th babies video was all edited and everything, I just had to wait until I had some extra cash to order the dvd. I finally went to order and the website was gone! I was crushed and am still trying to figure out if there is any way to get it back. I received no notice that they were closing. So disappointing.

  30. Diann BORTHWICK says:

I too found out in June of 2014. Also had video tributes to my children, husband and deceased grandmother. I paid $3.99 per month for at least 7 years and missed the email because my email address I registered with them is my backup address which I do not check as often. I had even purchased 2 that made of my late brother in law and my mother and father in laws 50th wedding anniversary tribute. In the months before they closed. They could have made those videos available to us for an unlimited time! Please, if someone hears of any answers from Disney, post for all to see! ☺️- Diann Borthwick

  31. Lindsay says:

I’m looking for the same thing. I made a video of my daughters first year and can not access it. I would be happy to purchase it.

  32. EA Speed says:

Wow! Only found out today that it’s gone. Lost some files there too. Sad :((

  33. Jodie says:

Lost all mine too, no notice ever

  34. Andrea Cavanaugh says:

for all you ppl who say you didnt receive a notice, when you log into one true media in huge letters it said they were closing and to save your videos, must be you didnt log in enough to know that and thats why they closed, I do believe paying customers got emails, I know I did..I miss this site, I used it for everything…..

  35. kimchiajumma says:

Since One True Media shutdown, I have been using Window’s Movie Maker. It doesn’t have the flare that OTM had, but you can create videos, add pictures, and even music. To date, it is still a free offline program, and you can download it directly from Microsoft http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-movie-maker-download. I have make a number of videos with WMM and I am always happy with the result.

  36. kimchiajumma says:

For those who did not retrieve your videos from OTM. When they closed, all videos where delete along with the website. If there is any chance that they still exist, then Disney would have them. Disney purchased spotify, which owned OTM. You can try writing to Disney at

THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY (Main Office)
500 South Buena Vista Street MC 9722.
    Burbank, California 91521.Nov 18, 2013

However, do not get your hopes up, as they were probably deleted. Which is why everyone was told to retrieve their videos before closure. They even had a grace period, as I was still downloading my videos in July 2014. Best of luck to you all.

  37. Shanice says:

I am disappointed that they have closed I did every single event on their I had at least 20+ videos sigh and I bought from them so they got business least from me come back one true media

  38. Tia Jewell says:

I lost sooooooo much there. Cant even begin to describe how heartbreaking it is… No warning here either. Just gone.

  39. Angela says:

Did anyone ever find out if there is a way to retrieve our memories, even if its at a small cost?

  40. Glenda Denney says:

Wow You can tell Im out of the loop I am so so so Upset I didn’t know they were shutting down along with everyone else I had memories that cannot be replaced Im sick to my stomach I have an aunt who is on her way out as we speak and I went looking for one true media to find it doesn’t exist …

  41. Autumn Fysh says:

I used OneTrueMedia to make slideshows all throughout high school. Senior year, a terrible accident happened to my laptop resulting in a harddrive crash and my backup flashdrive being destroyed all at once. I lost SO MUCH but I was happy I at least had some of it backed up to OTM. I don’t know how long they had the message up that they were closing, but it must not have been too long. I never saw it and never got an email because I didn’t have internet for awhile. I am heartbroken; I now have no videos, no pictures, nothing from my middle and high school days. I can’t believe it. They could’ve closed down the site without deleting all of the material, at least for a little longer, like a pay to access for the next year after closing or something. I would’ve gladly paid to download my videos after I got internet back. I only missed out on internet for about 6 months in the first place; that is not enough notice for such a sensitive thing! And the fact that they don’t seem to be responding to anyone about it is beyond heartless and shady. What a horrible company. I will never endorse anything these guys make ever again.

  42. marvila80 says:

has anyone had any luck getting there videos back, I thought I had saved mine to my facebook and turns out I didn’t. Very heartbroken because they were my sons baby videos 😦

  43. Steve Riggs says:

Fired up my TiVo, and watched some of my OTM videos, and it reminded me that I had credit for videos still, when I tried to go look for the site, that’s when I learned they were no more. Never got any email, and can’t believe there was no message on my TiVo regarding the shutdown of their site, or an email, (let alone the refund for the video uploads I had purchased in advance, which were never used). Shame on Spotify and Disney for deleting content from all their loyal customers, who had entrusted them with their memories. I can’t believe they’re all gone.

  44. Gina Dykes says:

Does anyone know of a new site like OTM?

  45. Nicole says:

This sucks that there is no way to retrieve them. My laptop crashed and i have lost videos of my daughter. Disney should have kept it open. it was a great site.

  46. Autumn Fysh says:

Big companies like Disney and Spotify could’ve easily managed keeping the already uploaded data accessible for an extra year or two, especially for paying customers. I originally wrote in June of 2016 on here, but I saw that OTM had shut down just a month too late. I would’ve been able to save all of those memories had they just kept the data a little longer. Not to mention, how much notice did they give? Like a week? A month? Because I logged into there at least once a month, it couldn’t have been longer than that. So irresponsible and careless. My heart breaks over some of the other stories I’ve read, especially about the mother who lost videos of her son who had cancer. Truly disgusting how they threw their hands up and quietly trashed lifetimes of memories for no good reason overnight.

  47. Dawn VanCamp says:

I miss you!!!!!😢 Please come back One Teue Media!!!!!

  48. Dawn VanCamp says:

I miss you!!!!!😢 Please come back One True Media!!!!!

  49. kaz ishmael says:

I wish the original makers of one true media could make a new site like this ..they sold it to Disney, Disney didn’t want people making their own videos on one true media because they want to control everything that we do.

  50. Liz says:

Is there any way to still get your videos from this website. I have some very special ones that I made and would like to get off of there. They are ones I made for my children that I can’t replace. Any help with getting them would be appreciated!!

    • bobbie says:

I fortunately got an email from them before they shut down, and downloaded mine. Since then I’ve tried writing to the former owners, who are now at Disney I think but of course got no reply. This entry of my blog has more comments than any other entry, and I really wanted to help all these people! but no luck.

  51. pj says:

That is not nice how they shut down. How can they give a notice on the site? its not a chat site that everyone meets there. I want all my uploaded videos back. There should be protest about this, because many people had sentimental videos to them, Including a person who mentioned about their kid having cancer and can’t get the video either. Did they expect us to save it, in a time where that’s what the site was also for? I want my videos back please. Memories are important when you cannot recall their detail in mind.

    • Terry says:

I composed an awesome montauge of pictures I now longer have. They shut down and I didn’t know about it although they supposedly contacted members in advance. I am a 100% Disabled Veteran and I must have missed the notification.
I tried contacting the company but I was unsuccessful.

  52. Speechless says:

One True Media was the VERY best. There is NOTHING like it after all these years, and the ones that are supposed replacements for it are just like movie maker, which I can’t stand. I truly miss OTM still. I don’t even do videos anymore. I surely wish they would have given us users time to buy their program before disappearing… I loved the interface and all the transitions and special effects. I wish I could create something like that.
