Für Elise

Except for being so close to Christmas, it’s a great day for a birthday – you get to listen to Beethoven all day, assuming your local classical music station does that sort of thing (and assuming you even have a local classical music station).

It was my mother-in-law’s birthday, but she didn’t really appreciate Beethoven, so it was kind of wasted on her; but maybe now she’s met him up there and changed her mind.

But it’s also the birthday of one of my oldest, dearest friends, and San Francisco must have a classical music station, since they’re so enlightened about everything else; and so I wish her much Beethoven – and we’ll just pretend her name’s Elise.
