It’s a good thing he died on a cross

If Constantine’s mother hadn’t actually found the true cross when she went searching in Jerusalem, the Eastern Orthodox Church would have been missing a lot of feast days. There’s the Uncovering of the Precious Cross and the Precious Nails by Empress Saint Helen (March 6), the Finding of the True Cross (May 3: somehow the Finding came after the Uncovering), the Procession of the Venerable Wood of the Cross (August 1), and the Elevation of the Holy Cross (today).

But what if it was really one of the thieves’ crosses?
