D-Day

Churchill called it, evocatively, Operation Overlord. Sixty-five years ago our parents and grandparents woke up to three-column headlines; it would take nearly another year before they knew the evil overlord was dead. We, meanwhile, are wondering why the Obamas won’t have dinner with Nicholas and Carla and who on earth thought it was okay not to invite Queen Elizabeth to Normandy.
