Constantine the Great

If You were God, would You help a Roman emperor win a bloody battle if he had a cross inscribed on his soldiers’ shields? Would the means justify the end, if You knew that, after that battle, Christianity would flourish in the Roman Empire and, eventually, around the world?

He also took care of some administrative details for You. He figured out a way to make Easter fall after the Vernal Equinox, which was important for some reason. He made Your special day separate from the Jewish Sabbath and – I know this is probably important to You – he banned crucifixion.

He died on this day in 337, but he didn’t get his own feast day – he had to share yesterday with his mother, St. Helena.
